My memoir begins on a cold winter day long ago: January 29th ,1959.
I was a 2-year-old, sitting in my highchair in our warm, fragrant family kitchen while Mommy cooked supper at the stove. I should have been safe. But I wasn’t.
In a split second, the unimaginable happened.
For so many years (decades), I didn’t know the exact date of what my family came to call The Accident. Then, while writing this book and researching 50-year-old medical records, I found the date. I also found a long-hidden secret…which I share with readers in Good Eye, Bad Eye.
Since releasing my story to the world—the story of how I became one-eyed—I have been deeply moved by people’s response to this book. I have received nothing but loving support. I guess we all understand trauma, don’t we? We each have had our own struggles and injuries, some visible, some invisible. When I uncloaked the trauma I had carried my whole life and dropped it into the pages of this book, you all responded with kindness.
So …. to mark January 29, the anniversary of my injury, and to acknowledge your beautiful response to this memoir, I am launching a three-day book promotion that runs Jan. 29-31. During that time, the ebook version of Good Eye, Bad Eye will be free—yes, FREE!—on Amazon.
If you prefer to read a paperback, I recommend that you purchase Good Eye, Bad Eye at any of these online outlets:
You also can order it online from Malaprop's in Asheville, NC or from your local independent bookseller. (Shop indie! Yay!)
Or … I’m happy to mail you an autographed copy for $18. I’ll even throw in a handy GEBE bookmark. Let me know if you want one by replying to this newsletter in your e-mail.
Please share this post with anyone you know who might benefit from reading about trauma and the healing journey. Or better yet, gift that person with a free ebook of Good Eye, Bad Eye! There’s plenty in this book that I’ve learned as a psychotherapist working with wounded people. I want Good Eye, Bad Eye to go out there and dispense some medicine for this troubled world of ours.
Thank you again, friends, for your support of my memoir. It wasn’t easy to reopen old wounds, to write about them, and to launch something so personal into the atmosphere. Your response made it all worthwhile.
This story is told through the dual lens of a professional writer and highly trained psychotherapist. Sharing this story for free will hopefully go a long way toward lifting the spirits of a lot of people who have experienced debilitating trauma of any kind. The more people who read this book, the better. I also hope that it helps to generate more reviews for this multifaceted book. Thank you!
I would love to read it, but it is only free, from what I can see, if you pay to have Kindle Unlimited.
